The New Year is Here...

I have many plans and goals for the year ahead and I am already working on a couple of them. The first is to finish putting together a cookbook that I have been working on for several years and another goal on the top of the list is to get 2 quilts finished....one for my son and the other for my sister. What goals do you have for the year ahead?????

Ooooh before I forget.....have you ever tried this hand and body lotion??? Now no one is paying me or giving me anything to say this...I'm just saying.... this stuff is GOOD!! I have problems every year with my hands drying out in the cold weather and this lotion does wonders for them and smells so nice! I just bought me two tubes..............

Thought I would share a couple pictures with you. I've been busy this morning. I have the washing and ironing finished, a stew started in the crock pot and I'm off to finish putting a quilt together before it's time to get a loaf of bread going in the bread machine to go with the stew for dinner!

Productive Weekend....

~We visited Breeden's Apple Orchard on Saturday - they have the absolute best apples ever!! As you can see we got a mixture of Red and Yellow Delicious apples. We also picked up a 1/2 bushel of Mutsu(Crispin) while we were there and they were fabulous~

~Enough apples peeled here for 9 pies and that is what we made~

Friendship Bread Starter

Today is Day One for my friendship starter. On Day 10... I can bake my two loaves of bread and share my starter with four friends! Have you ever done this before? I am interested in how many people have starter that they have had for years. I had some back in the 80's that I had acquired from a friend. I kept it for about 4-5 years and then I moved and gave it away. This batch is a keeper...I miss my friendship bread. :)

I still have some squares to put together so if you do not see your squares then it's not completed just yet. Hope everyone had a wonderful new year! I am so looking forward to spring :) Looking forward to getting my garden started!

We tried a great Cake recipe over the holiday and I thought you may like to give it a try as well:

Sugar and Spice Cake

1 pkg(18.25 oz) white cake mix
1(16 oz) container sour cream(or substitute w/yogurt)
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 tsp apple pie spice (I used allspice)
1 tsp vanilla

Beat first 6 ingredients till smooth. Pour into 3 greased and floured cake pans(8 inch). Bake @ 350 for about 20-25 minutes, till you think it's done. Cool for about an hour or longer - has to be really cool so it's easier to frost. Frost with buttercream frosting - between the layers, top and sides. Delicious cake!

The first of October our crochet group began working on a new charity. We are now collecting crocheted squares to assemble and make afghans for the homeless children in shelters. We went, "Home" to Vermont for a visit in August. Had a great week. I was able to deliver my sister, Holly, her handmade birthday gift(placemats and table runner).....the table runner does have binding around it however, I failed to get a pic of that!!

Recipe of the Week

~Chocolate Chip Cookies~

3 cups flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoons salt
1 cup(2 sticks) margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 package semisweet chocolate chips
1 package milk chocolate chips
1 package white chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. In another bowl combine butter, sugar and brown sugar. Beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time; stir in vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture now and beat well. Add the all the chocolate chips and walnuts now and mix with a spoon. Drop dough by tablespoons onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake approx. 15 minutes or until golden.

~Simmering Potpourri~

1/2 cup dried orange peel
1/2 cup broken cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup whole allspice
1/2 cup bay leaves, finely crushed
1/4 cup whole cloves
1/4 cup anise seed
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon or clove oil

In medium bowl combine all ingredients except oil and stir. Add oil; stir to evenly distribute. Store in airtight container.

To use: In potpourri burner or small saucepan, combine 1 cup boiling water and 2-3 tablespoons potpourri. Simmer over candle or on low heat, adding hot water when necessary. Yields 2 cups potpourri. ~Enjoy the aroma~

Summer is here...

I can not believe how long it's been since I've posted. Summer weather is really here and think to stay... It was 90 on June 1 and it has promised to be that again this week. I signed up for a sewing/quilting class and went to the first session on Wednesday. I didn't do this because I need to learn(I can sew and quilt)but rather to get me motivated to finish up these projects I have half completed. The next time I post hopefully I will have some projects completed and can post some new pictures. I hope everyone had a great week and an exciting weekend planned!! Basement is painted. The walls I painted with Chocolate Turtle(sounds funky huh) paint and the concrete floor is painted and clear coated with brown. Just waiting on Lee now to get the rest of the doors hung and then we'll get the furniture down there. I'll keep you posted and get some pictures hopefully by weekend!! Have a Blessed Week!!!

Not sure how I lost track for this long. I've been busy crocheting and sewing quilts together. Here's the picture of my latest crocheted doily.

Jeffrey and Megan sent us a picture of Logan today. We are so amazed how much he has grown since we see them in November....so sweet he is!!

Lee and I both have the day off tomorrow and we plan to spend Valentine's Day and Our 5th Wedding Anniversary painting in the basement....hope to have it completed by tomorrow evening.

Hard to believe it's almost 2009..time sure does fly the older ya get!

So many wonderful things have happened since I was here at Thanksgiving - Jeffrey, Megan and Logan came for a visit. Logan is growing so quickly he is nearly 15 months old now. We enjoyed their visit and had a great time. Went to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville to see the Christmas lights and what an incredible sight to see. If you have never been to Nashville at Christmas time you should really try to get here...the lights are georgeous!

Lee has started working in the basement in his, "free time". We have a full basement and have decided to finish it off which will add a large bedroom/more craft space, full bath, sitting room, the laundry room and then a one car garage. It will take a couple more weeks to complete but it will be worth the mess when it's done!!

I will continue crocheting Afghans again this year for Charity . I have finished several pink and white squares for the Afghan to donate for the Breast Cancer Awareness Raffle. Still working on the 12" squares for the other Charity Afghans and of course, I plan to continue making shawls for The Shawl Ministry.

My newest project is a Babette Afghan (pattern can be purchased at... http://shop.interweave.com/store/Babette-Blanket-P235C59.aspx ) and the picture above is the different colors I am planning to use in the Babette. I'll post pictures as I get sections completed.

Blessed Thanksgiving

It's been a bit since I have written. We have had a very busy couple of weeks.

Lee's family came to share dinner with us on Thanksgiving and of course we all ate more than we needed but had a wonderful visit!

Yesterday was the biggest shopping day of the year and of course I went out to get a few things. When I returned I did not unload a thing until I first came in and did some gathering up. You see I have been piling things in a little nook in the basement and saying that I was going to take them to the Help Center/Domestic Violence Shelter when I had a minute. Yesterday I decided that I needed to take a minute and I loaded up the car with everything from coats, clothes(many newly tagged), items I had bought through out the year that were on clearance, candles, puzzles, etc, etc. etc......I had the back seat flowing over. I had been planning to do this for quite sometime and now was the best time. The shelters/centers are really in need of things at this time of year to give families for Christmas gifts and for families to get Christmas gifts for their children. If you have a free minute just bag up a couple things and drop them off on your way by.

Last week, Dan and Candice(fabulous couple that live here in town) had dinner with us and we really enjoyed their visit. We do not get together often enough but have promised to do better about that in the coming year.

I did not forget however, I did not post that I broke my toe the first week of November(what I thought was only a toe). When you break a toe it is VERY painful and everything in life changes from the way you walk to how quickly you get the chores finished. Anyway, the toe continued to get NO better so I mentioned it to the doctor when I was in there for my checkup and she suggested an x-ray. To make a long story short, the foot is broken as well as the toe and I go the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. We'll see at that point what further damage I did by waiting to get the foot looked at!

Jeffrey, Meagan and Logan will be here on Thursday from Vermont for a 5 day visit. We miss them so much and are really looking forward to their visit. We are hoping it doesn't get alot colder before they arrive so that we can visit the Nashville Zoo while they are here. We will also go to Opryland to see all the Christmas lights. It will be wonderful. I'll be sure to post pictures for all to see! Take Care!

Clocks Changed and Doily Finished

Not sure I'm liking this clock changing business but I guess as long as I live where I do I will act like the rest of the folks around here and change my clocks so I can be....almost on time....most of the time!!

Well....I know I said I would have my doily finished before Church on Sunday but that didn't happen however, I did finish it today. Just so y'all know this is the first and last beaded doily I will ever make if I have to string 600+ beads!! I love to make doilies using any pattern but I do not like stringing beads.

My next projects are these sequin calendars. I have one nearly complete so I'll get busy on that now and hope to post a picture of that in the next day or so.

We came close to finishing our deck yesterday...all we lack is one board that we need to pick up this week and the stairs. We are not quite sure yet where the stairs are going because we have not decided whether or not we are going to put a garage at the end of the driveway. We looked at different options this weekend and now need to make a decision. I'm off to work on my Christmas Sequin Calendars....I hope everyone is having a Blessed Sunday!

I've been a while getting back here to post the picture of the finished afghan however, it's here now. I just started working on my sequin calendars for Christmas gifts. I have several other projects in the works to include an afghan to donate for a Breast Cancer Raffle, Cross Stitch Pillowcases, Christmas Ornaments and I am collecting information and planning to start a Shawl Ministry here in town. You know what, I just looked at the clock and right now if I do not hush and get moving I'm gonna be late for work......have a great week and I'll talk to y'all soon!

Our weekend was quiet we started setting posts for a new deck off the back of our house which will replace the old one that was here when we purchased the house in April. I worked on a pile of ironing and I am nearly finished with my round ripple blanket. I should be able to post a picture of that by mid week and then I'll work on the Breast Cancer Afghan.

I talked to Logan on Sunday....it was his first birthday and the celebration for him went well. They may all try to come here to Tennessee for a visit in between Thanksgiving and Christmas if we can get flights and all arranged between now and then.

Oh well, I'm off to have another cup of coffee and finish getting ready for my Monday. I hope everyone has a great week.

We have a busy weekend ahead with the family sale and there are several fall festivals really close that I plan to visit. Last week I finished putting together two quilt tops and now I just need to decide on the backing for those. I filled the bird feeders this morning and with the temperature change I'm sure they will need to be filled more often. I just finished my first of 36 crocheted squares for the local breast cancer raffle. I'll post a picture when it is a bit closer to being finished. I'm gonna go work on my scarf crochet along....I think I may need this scarf sooner that anticipated.....
